Rare 1932 minted Ben Franklin, bronze medallion.   America’s Colonial Hero.

 

Bronze Medallion of Ben Franklin, 1706 – 1790.  A self-made man, decades ahead of his time.  Inventor (Franklin heating stove) / Printer & Publicist / Civic Leader / Pragmatic Scientist (like, the kite to prove lightening is electricity) / Plan of Union (colonies) / Statesman & Diplomat / Abolition sympathizer 1730’s to death.

 

Impressive 3-1/2” two sided medallion.  Fine detailing.  Well aged.  Fitted into well grained walnut frame __ x __. 

 

Front is silhouette in good relief of Franklin.  Reverse side is Romanesque scene paying tribute to Franklin’s contributions.  Encircled with engraved words:   Philanthropy (Philosophy?), Literature, Sciences, Patriotism

 

Good condition, well aged coloration with lovely patina, minor striations; back side has blotches near edge (old adhesive?).  Frame has some light irregularities indicative of age; typical darkening on upper edge of frame from long-time display in open area.  Silhouette measures ___” in diameter.

 

Mint marking on back (see close-up photo) reads: JRB on left and 1932 to the right of scroll w/vertical quill thru center of scroll.
